Theresa Benjamin, founder, explains why she saw the need to open Daughters of Destiny and Hope.
Throughout my years in education, I have noticed that girls of color displayed low self- esteem, manifested in unhealthy behaviors. In learning, these girls had low test scores, with high absenteeism from school. They did not value themselves or their relationships with other girls. When girls are provided with positive, successful female role models, this will make a difference. If the girls were taught to recognize and appreciate their beauty and their unique talents, this would change their perception of themselves and their future.
